Title Determined - Let The Show Begin!
As I mentioned yesterday, as this story is in part based in relative reality..... There's nothing relative about it. It is reality or the real world at least. It isn't autobiographical but based on or set within an environment that I did experience around 15 years ago now.
In all, the experience was a good one. It is that experience that this story is based around.
The title exists. I'm in two minds whether to name chapters. At this stage, I'm not overly concerned with worrying about those sorts of details.
In terms of structures, I've written out on a legal pad the basic narrative that I want to follow and it will loosely provide me a set of scenes or sequences to follow.
I've created my central character!
Please welcome to the page Dylan. Dum dum dum...... Along with his name, I do have a back story to support him, again written out on a legal pad. This is all very loose at the moment, as I like the idea of the character developing as I continue the story.
I've decided to write in the first person. I've always been a fan of it. Some of my most favourite books are written in this style. To name a few would be certainly; without hesitation, The Catcher In The Rye, A Confederacy Of Dunces, The Great Gatsby, Lolita and even Gone Girl.
I like any books or writing that really explores a characters mind. I think everyone likes a journey. I don't mean in the sense of Jack Kerouac or anything along those lines. That isn't to say that I don't love his work, because I do. I mean more an introspective, mental journey. Perhaps mental is the wrong word to use...... Psychological journey is a preferable way to describe it I suppose. Anything that really reveals what the central character is thinking, his experience in getting to a certain point in time and what thoughts manifest within his or herself.
You could argue that it's almost restrictive because it then does not allow the reverse when other characters are introduced. I would though argue that this style allows the central character to speculate on what another character immediately thinks upon meeting someone or whilst talking to them. I also like that 'inner thought' juxtaposed alongside the external dialogue. I enjoy the conflict of that.
I do hope I'm able to make use of these techniques. Hell, of course I can. I'm writing it.
I've written a number of pages thus far. I think I have a relatively strong first line. Again, at this stage. I'm kind of just getting it out on paper as opposed to necessarily worrying too much about how it reads at this moment in time.
I always regurgitate the same line - Write with your heart, re-write with your head! I'll live by that with this one.
Obviously, a long long road ahead but I'll keep you updated.
Until next time.....
Do good things!
